This very classic and elegant scarf features a black and gold Greek key design which includes my original artwork of 9 local iron gates in Charleston, South Carolina. This design includes the Heart Gate by Philip Simmons, the Sword Gate at 32 Legare Street, St. Michael’s, St. Philips, and the Unitarian Church gates. Elements of decorative iron first appeared on the buildings of Charleston during the middle decades of the eighteenth century. These decorative elements, primarily English in style, closely followed the published patterns of the prominent British architect and furniture designer Robert Adam. This unique architectural element has continued throughout the centuries and ironwork is still proudly displayed as functioning gates but also in balconies, railings, fences, and window grills embellishing houses, churches, banks, and other public buildings.
