It's hard to balance everything. It's always challenging. I love my beauty. It's not my fault. I've always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet. The only way to do something in depth is to work hard. My job is to bring out in people what they wouldn't dare do themselves.

You have to always work against what you did before, and even against your taste. It is important to be chic. My learning process is by eye alone; it's not at all scientific. My learning process is by eye alone; it's not at all scientific. We look our best in subdued colors, sophisticated cuts, and a general air of sleek understatement.

Fashions fade, style is eternal. Even Michelangelo got paid for doing the Sistine Chapel. To those artists who say they're doing it for the love of art, I say: Get real. Nostalgia is a very complicated subject for me. I'm attracted by nostalgia but I refuse it intellectually. In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and clothes and even handbags, the discussion of fur is childish. Doing collections, doing fashion is like a non-stop dialogue.

Fashion should be fun. It shouldn't be labelled intellectual. Money is the most corrosive aspect of life today because it means that all attention to detail is forgotten. In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and clothes and even handbags, the discussion of fur is childish. I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes. You have to be luxurious nude. It's difficult to move in the nude in front of a mirror. It's much easier to move when you're dressed. But if you can walk around in the nude easily in front of your man, if you can be luxurious in the nude, then you've really got it.

Fashion to me has become very disposable; I wanted to get back to craft, to clothes that could last. Those fashion designers are just crazy; but aren't we all? I still appreciate individuality. Style is much more interesting than fashion, really. Luxury will be always around, no matter what happens in the world. I'm an accomplice to helping women get what they want.

I adore the challenge of creating truly modern clothes, where a woman's personality and sense of self are revealed. I want people to see the dress, but focus on the woman. You have to stay true to your heritage; that's what your brand is about. Never in my wildest dreams did I entertain the idea that I would become a fashion designer. Age and size are only numbers. It's the attitude you bring to clothes that make the difference. You're only as good as your last collection, which is an enormous pressure.

I truly believe that philanthropy and commerce can work together. A lot of self-importance goes on in the fashion industry. I'm not like that. I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast... We have to change. I don't like trends. They tend to make everybody look the same. Today, I'm very happy about myself, because I realized my dreams. I learned how to understand what people want.
