When Art by George Roberts and Eden Shell were created, one of my goals was to give back to the community through my business. Because the beach is my happy place and inspiration, I will be helping groups primarily associated with coastal initiatives, sea life, and the ocean. Stay tuned for more about this in the future.
Another cause important to me is the fight against cancer. All of us have been touched by this terrible disease in some way. I lost my aunt to breast cancer and have numerous friends who have successfully gone through treatment and others who have lost their fight. My daughter, Melissa, is a nurse manager at a bone marrow transplant unit in North Carolina, and she has too many heartbreaking stories to tell. Over the past year, I have gifted four scarves to women going through cancer treatment. The recipients’ responses have been very poignant and I want to do more.
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and orange is the official color for leukemia. So it is very fitting that I will be donating a tangerine sweetgrass scarf to a cancer patient for every scarf sold on our website during this month. Please help spread the word so I can give away as many scarves as possible. And please let me know if there is someone you know who could use a scarf while undergoing cancer treatment.
